Freeroll Strategy FTW

If you like a lot of us Poker-Freerollers want to start your poker career playing poker freerolls online. You should make some considerations on how to adjust your strategies to excactly freerolls.

Freerolls – different variants

First it is important to figure out what kind of freerolls you want to play – there are loads of freerolls out there just waiting for someone to join 24/7 – just check out the Freeroll list to see how many is about to start within th next hour. So figuring what you want to play is the first step. Poker-Freeroller has made the service of already having an article on different variants of freerolls.  What is the good things and bad things on different kinds of freerolls. After finding the right one it is time to find the right strategy for winning and start building a poker bankroll from scratch.

Freeroll Strategy

Poker in general is always about making adjustments to your previous strategies. This also count for freerolls. Poker-freeroller have created a supreme article on freeroll strategy and how to adjust to freerolls. Unlike other articles on freerolls – from competing sites – that are written by incompetent amateur poker players there at best have read one or two  books on poker (but probably didn’t understood anything in them) this article is created by our own poker pro Crazy dog. That explains how to make the right adjustments and implement strategies that would be insane and on the borderline to stupidity in poker tournaments with a real buy-in. Black Friday update:

What did happen to PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. None of them accepts US players at the moment. But to be fair we need to look at those to sites individually to make a more serious evuluation of the status and situation Black Friday and the F.B.I has caused for the untill now the biggest poker sites in the world.

PokerStars after Black Friday – Back to normal

Well not for real – they do not accept US players as real money players any more. But when we consider PokerStars status as Back to Normal is it because we have focus on the aspect that really defines if the company is trustworthy company or not: Finances and the ability to pay the players when withdrawing. Last week we had our risk evalution on PokerStars set to: Critical. This week we have discovered that despite several of PokerStars bank accounts got frozen all over the world by the FBI they have been able to pay out money to their players and therefore we have adjusted our risk level on PokerStars to minimal.

Risk Level: minimal

Chance of reopening for US-players: small

Full Tilt Poker after Black Friday – Still in trouble

Unlike PokerStars Full Tilt Poker still haven’t paid a lot of withdrawals to their players. So we would love to degrade the risk level more than we do, but we need to see some more payments to lower it more than we do. In the light of the happenings on PokerStars we have reduced the risk level on Full Tilt Poker from critical to medium. We need to see some more actions from their own hands to lower this level.

Risk level: Medium

Chance of reopening for US-players: Medium

Freerolls – different variants!

By now you have probably entered a couple of freerolls or more. You might have noticed that there is a lot of very different freerolls to play out there. In this article we will summarize the different types of freerolls out there.

Freerolls a definition

A freeroll is a poker tournament where you don’t have to pay money to enter and where you are able to win a prize with a certain real money value.  So it is a kind of mixture between a play money poker – you enter for free - and real money poker – you can win real money prizes.

Poker Freerolls are widely used among poker sites to attract new customers as well as a way to reward existing customers.

Freerolls comes in all variants

When you decide to play a poker freeroll there is a couple of things we recommend that you should consider. If you are going all the way to the prizes you might easily use 6-8 hours in a big freeroll. So considering which one(s) to join should be essential before you waste 6 hours winning some points your are never going to use or entrance to a bigger tournament a day you are not able to play.

Satellite freerolls versus cash freerolls

One way to categorize poker freerolls is in terms of prizes. Does the tournament pay out directly into your account or does it allow you to play a bigger tournament. The latter is what we refer to as a satellite freeroll and the first one a cash freeroll. It is not that the one or the other is better it is just two different systems. Typically the cash freerolls have a relative small prize pool where the satellite freerolls leads to bigger tournaments with bigger prizes. At some sites like Everest Poker, PokerStars and Party Poker you can use satellite freerolls to get to the huge live tournaments like WSOP, WPT and EPT. They have different promotions like this running all the time BUT don’t expect it to be enough to win two tournaments to get a WSOP package – winning an WSOP through freerolling is tough buisness.

New Depositor Freerolls

This is a special promotional freeroll which almost all Poker Sites use. In general new depositor freerolls have bigger prizes and fewer entrants. If you are going to deposit we recommend that you find out what freerolls that allows you to participate in and for how long. This differs from site to site.

Freeroll multi-table tournaments versus freeroll SNGs

Most freerolls today are in a Multi-table tournament format. Often you see many thousands joining them. But there is also a couple of sites which have small SNG freerolls running 24-7 . The SNG freerolls we know of is all in full ring format with either 9 or 10 players at one table. This reduces the neccesary time used on this freeroll and it increases the chance of getting in the money. The downside the prize pools are small. The sites who at the present time are running these SNG freerolls are: Everest Poker – who run the Fixed Limit Shasta Freerolls (click here for more info) , PKR has the 10-cents no limit freerolls and Carbon Poker - which accepts US-citizens – has a satellite variation of the SNG Freerolls where you have to go through three SNGs to win 1 dollar. These are called Fun Step Freerolls and you use Playmoney to buy in to the freerolls (to learn more about these click here).

Player Point Freerolls

These freerolls is kind of in the greyzone of being a freeroll. Player points have many names all depending on which site you are at. No matter name then you can use these points to buy into freerolls, but unlike playmoney these points are not just something you get for free. These player points are something you create while you are playing real money games, and they actually have some kind of value. So even though that the poker sites promotes these tournament as freerolls then this kind of freerolls have a direct buyin of value even though it is not dollars itself.

Loyality freerolls

Loyality freerolls are  restricted to certain players. They are offered to players who have played a certain amount real money games. Unlike the Player Point freerolls the loyality freerolls are given as pure reward at no cost  Betfred Poker is a pokersite that uses this kind of freerolls to the extreme.

Poker-Freeroller Freerolls

These freerolls are exclusive to our subscribers ( to join just subscribe on the right side of this block). These freerolls are password protected and you will recieve the freeroll passwords as a subscriber of the Password Notifier.

Below we have added our Poker Freeroll List just click the questionaire to find out what kind of freerolls the different ones are. Only the SNG freerolls are left out as they are played 24-7 and opens a new table every time a table is full!
